PDDL(Planning Domain Definition Language) is the language developed by the AIPS-98 Competition Committee for use in defining problem domains. PDDL is basically a first-order logic language with lisp-lex syntax.

We have built up an automatic translator between PDDL and RDF/DAML.

• It can translate an input PDDL file (either a domain, a situation, a problem definition or any combination of them) to a RDF/DAML file. The functions of processing PDDL comments and expansions are also included.
• The reverse direction from the RDF/DAML files generated by our translator back to PDDL can work since Oct. 2001.
• Translation from general DAML files to PDDL ones is also available since Mar. 2002.

Our translator was developed mainly basing on the PDDL manual and RDF syntax. We also added some features from DAML+OIL, PDDL ontology and DRS ontology. The RDF structure is based on Jena. Some classes and source code of Jena have been used but we change its model and writer as:

• Not let Model class to do everything but use NodeFactory to create all kinds of RDFNode such as Resource, Statement, Model and Literal.
• Property and Containers(Alt, Bag and Seq) are still subClasses of Resource but Statement is not a Resource anymore.
• New PrettyWriter can write RDF/DAML file with hierarchies, not just a serialization of RDF resources.

Online Service:

We provide an online service for the translation from a generic DAML file to a corresponding PDDL one.

Software:

• download:
  • Java classes and test pddl/rdf files: pddl_daml_translator-0-2.tar.gz
  • Java source code: daml_pddl_translation_doc.tar.gz
• setup and application:
  
  • Download java classes gz file and decompress it under some directory.
  • Set that directory into your classpath.
  • Run translator as: java edu.yale.ai.daml_pddl.translation.Translator [output filename]. If the output file is void, the translator will create a default one as result.rdf (from pddl to rdf/daml) or result.pddl (from rdf/daml to pddl) respectively.
